Learning to read your athletes in order to try to comprehend the complex nature of maturity, development and emotional states is where real coaches make a difference. We can get all caught up in the latest trends, theories and practices of coaching, but if we aren’t meeting our athletes where they are at, neglect to take into account their outside stressors or completely gloss over the human component of coaching, you are doing a major disservice. Always strive to do this better!
